Rules to be the clear winner

Who would not love to be a winner?? How many of us envy those who we think are gifted and win in almost whatever they do – the ’all rounders’ as we like to call them. These people are not somebody who are just plain lucky or have some kind of success potion in them. What they have is the passion and desire to succeed in whatever they do. This is the most needed quality in a person who wants to succeed.

Also, having a desire to succeed is not the end of the path. You need to work towards it in order to achieve it. To succeed, you need plan and work out a formula that has a certain set of rules. The first one is to have clear vision of what you want in life. Before you begin a task, get a clear picture of what the job will require. Frame your objective and break it up into tiny tasks, this will help you in succeeding. This will also help you in working out the details and getting the finer parts of the job done as well, making the final outcome perfect. Making a checklist and following it, will ensure that you don’t miss out on any detail. But also keep in mind that setting out to be a perfectionist will eat up a lot of your time. Be careful not to spend way too much time, definitely not more than required. Set a deadline to every task and strive hard to achieve it. Deadlines help you complete a task sooner and set out to do the next one, helping you become a winner. Not sticking to your deadline will most definitely make you a loser. So do remember these easy rules, as they are sure to help you in your path of becoming a true winner.

Preparation for an Interview- A must for Employers too!!

Job interviews are not just meetings that require preparation from the job seeker, but also the interviewer. In fact, it requires a lot of preparation from the interviewer if he/she plans to recruit the right candidate for the job. Preparing for the interview would help you study the person you are interviewing and discuss the right topics.

It’s best to start preparing for an interview by viewing it as a meeting. The first step towards it is to sit and mak/e a note of the role in hand, the tasks that one needs to handle in the role, the challenges and demands of the role and the skills required to complete it efficiently. With this handy, you should read through the resume of the candidates carefully and see what it is that makes you think would help them get into the role. The next thing would be the questions. Make a note of the questions you would like to ask the candidates and also make a mental note of the answers you expect from them. Once you start the meeting, ask the candidate to talk about himself/herself and pay attention. The first few minutes are what help you gauge the confidence and communication skills of the candidate. Also, take the pain to explain every bit of the role in detail and ask the candidate how he/she would fit in. Be sure to check on their previous experience that is relevant to role and question their knowledge in the subject.

Also talk about the challenges that the role puts forth and talk to candidate about his/her comfort level in dealing with it. Apart from all this, also try to figure out the candidate would fit into the team and gel well as that is equally important.

Let the Best man/woman win!

Common Mistakes in an Interview

With years of working comes expertise in the field that you deal with. While this helps in clearing the technical rounds of an interview, this does not really help in avoiding some of the most common mistakes made during the interview. These mistakes are committed knowingly/unknowingly and could lead to disasters in the interview. This could turn situations and decisions upside down and could change the decision of your employer. With a lot of well-qualified contenders for the jobs in the market, this makes it difficult for you to get the job of your dreams.

As these mistakes are highly expensive, one needs to recognize and rectify these errors, to be sure to impress your recruiters in to hiring you. One of the right ways to start this is by customizing your resume and highlighting the experience and skills that would suit the job profile. This would help in getting noticed during the resume screening and being selected for the interview. Also, when selected a lot of us think that our resume speaks a lot of our work and hence there is no need to elaborate on the work. One could not get the work of guessing more wrong. Talking about your work with enthusiasm and passion is what would impress your interviewer and also help him/her understand your knowledge in the area. Also, this helps on emphasizing certain skills and tasks that you have performed in the previous jobs that are required in the job you are being interviewed for. With all this, what you need to keep in mind is not to overdo and talk a lot, as it could be a total put-off for your employer.

More importantly, try not to fidget while waiting for the interview and try to sit back and relax or read something. Also try not chatting up a lot with the front-end desk as some of the interviewers do talk to the front-end desk to get a deeper perspective about the kind of person you are. Also be active on social networking websites, while ensuring that your activities on them help portray you the right way. Also remember that no matter the experience an interview needs you to be professional and polished. So tread carefully. All the best!!

Benefits of Positive Conflicts

One of the main ways to help companies grow is to let conflicts of ideas grow in the team. Not treating disagreements and conflicts as negative is the first step towards achieving it. Difference between people exists and hence conflicts are inevitable. The best way to utilize this is to turn these conflicts to being a constructive force. Maintaining a work environment that supports open exploration of ideas leads to innovative solutions and greater ways of achieving the set goals.

The first step towards this is by encouraging the discussions and treating it as healthy, positive, and normal. With the different people in the team, and their different perspectives put together, the final decision could be a brilliant thought. To ensure that the conflicts are healthy and not pitched at outwitting the opponents, the good side of the conflicts must be highlighted. Also making people understand that conflict of thoughts is normal while working together helps the team view it in a positive way too. Also help them understand that winning the argument is not what is important, but it is the benefits that they achieve as a team that is important. Once the team understands how to respect and make space for each other’s perspectives, conflicts will stop turning into ego clashes and make way to great ideas. Help them assume the responsibility of solving problems as they turn up.

One of the best ways to achieve this is by encouraging them to make most of the differences that exist in the team. Once they realize the varied skill sets in the team and the benefits that can be achieved from it, they will come up with strategies that will help them benefit mutually. This will also help the team bond and develop a good level of interpersonal relationship. With this, they also learn the positive way to deal with each other and handle differences easily while working as a team.

Employee support – a definite way to keep them happy

A lot of organizations claim employee satisfaction to be their top priority, but how many actually take steps towards achieving it? Taking initiatives towards helping your employees helps in getting the best performance out of them. And what better way to do it than provide your employees with support to deal with the crisis of life? Be it a bad boss, a break-up, overdue bills, or a troublesome teenage kid – a shoulder to cry over would definitely help your employees deal better with their stress. The best way to do it is by providing them with an online chat support session or a toll-free number to call and discuss their agony.

Confidence

Here’s a story I’m sure a lot of us have read/heard:

A small boy was auditioning with his classmates for a school play. His mother knew that he’d set his heart on being in the play, just like all the other children. She feared how he would react if he was not chosen. On the day the parts were awarded, the little boy’s mother went to the school gates to collect her son. The little lad rushed up to her, eyes shining with pride and excitement. “Guess what Mum,” he shouted, and then said the words that provide a lesson to us all, “I’ve been chosen to clap and cheer.”

Competition- Helpful or unhelpful?

The success of an organization wholly and largely depends on its employees understanding of the goals and the strategies and competencies required to achieve it. Competency is a synonym of the skills, knowledge, personal characteristics, and attitude required for the successful execution of the tasks. But what most organizations forget is that while motivating each employee to be the best, you are creating more of individual performers and lesser outstanding teams. It is but common knowledge that good teams are the two magic words for an organization to do well.

Creating such teams requires a healthy environment that does not push the employees to compete and outdo their team members, but that motivates them in supporting each other at every level. (more…)
